Bangkok Performing Arts Center
“To be or Not to be”
“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: They have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages”
William Shakespeare, As You Like It act2
For the performance art center, the location is near the area Rama VIII bridge in between Bangphlat and Pranakorn district. In the past, Bang-Phlat was an inner part of Phra Nakhon district which called Bang- Phlat district. Then it was reduced as a Sub-district of theBang-kok-noi, Thonburi. Later on there was an integration between Thonburi province and PhraNakhon into a metropolitan, Bangkok.
For the form of the building, I use the sence of the community as keyword by using axis lines those were come from the temple surrounding because the foundation of Thai culture come from the temple. And I choose some line that was built in King Pranungklao lll, because in that period the Buddhist is very prosperous and there are many temples that were built in this period. So, each axis line in the performance art center is a visual link to make people interact with the temple. And I design landscapes to connect the public park.
I used the polygon shape for the stage because this form is easy to adjust. And it can put together that is an advantage of symmetry form. The stages can adjust following a suitable function.
